Mark founded The Great Escape in 2008 after 12 years as a sports coach working with both children and adults. His outdoor skills were honed in his childhood home of Nepal, in the foothills of the Himalayas, where he spent much of his time trekking, rafting and exploring his amazing natural surroundings, and where the The Great Escape vision, based on experiential learning, was born.
Senior Team Leader
John has worked with The Great Escape Company for five years as a senior instructor and alternative learning specialist. He is a mountain and woodland survival specialist, an advanced medical technician and has a host of outdoor activity qualifications. He came to The Great Escape Company after serving with the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. He retired at the rank of Colour Sergeant. John qualified as a Pathfinder, and was seconded to the British Special Forces during his military career.
Toby has worked in the outdoor leisure industry for over 20 years, with experience of all age groups, and is the newest member of The Great Escape team. He's renowned for his his innovation and for being a dynamic hands on practitioner with specialisms in low rope activities and climbing.
Ryan was born and raised in South Africa, he spent his schooling career captaining various teams as well as being a Prefect. These leadership qualities gained him a position at one of South Africa’s leading Outdoor Leadership and Adventure Centres, where through the medium of outdoor activities, he has taught and equipped clients with various leadership, communication and team building theories and tools.
A former school teacher, Martin holds National Governing Body awards in mountain walking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering, archery and first aid. Martin's primary motivation comes from enabling others to develop a better understanding of themselves and others.
Kevin has been with the Great Escape Company from the outset and is an explorer at heart. Among his many proud achievements is driving from London to Katmandhu, a place that has also provided a base for numerous trekking expeditions in Nepal. Kevin's love of the great outdoors was also nurtured during the 5 years he spent running lodges in Africa.
Alex is the business brains of the team, looking after sales, marketing, accounts and logistics. She also takes care of recruitment, contracts, salaries, bonuses, company benefits, policies & procedures.
Claire has been a key organiser of national, regional and local events, from exclusive drinks parties, to large corporate team building days, working with and successfully coordinating the numerous different businesses, organisations and stakeholders involved. Claire's efficiency, organisation and communication skills mean things always go to smoothly, but when there is a glitch her practical and personable approach means she is very capable at making sure the 'show goes on'.
